In October 2018, the world’s leading scientists, led by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, issued a “final call” on climate change, stating that the world is completely “off track”.

To avert long-term and irreversible harm to our climate will require “rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society”.

According to the report, the world has around 12 years remaining to enact these changes if we want to keep temperature increases to 1.5°. Currently, the world is on course for a worrying rise of 3° by 2030.

Did you know that more power from the sun hits earth in a single hour than humanity uses in an entire year? Roof Stores wanted to find out how mankind would go about harnessing this energy to produce an earth powered entirely by solar.

It turns out an area equivalent to 1.2% of the Sahara desert is all that would be needed! Realistically, this would cost around $5 Trillion. Which does sound like a lot. But, to put it into perspective, that is the same amount as:

  • What the US spent on wars in the Middle East and Asian since 2001
    OR
  • What the world spend on the military and it’s weapons in just 3 years
    OR
  • The amount of money Americans spend on fast food over 3 Years
