But for apartment dwellers – and there are a lot of us – it all too often goes straight into the bin. So what can the environmentally-inclined connoisseur of bananas do with those leftover peels? Well how about polishing your silverware ahead of your next dinner party, or using banana peels as part of your New Year’s juice-detox diet? All you need to do is add the skins to a pot of boiling water, extracting the juices and giving you a tasty addition to your smoothie mixture.

You know these things, you may see them every single day if you drink milk or juice from tetra pak. Since we landed to Heidelberg, I’ve been collecting these plastic pull tabs hoping one day to upcycle / repurpose them, but it has been difficult to find really cool ideas, but today I decided to put together the ones that are really worth sharing. The most common one you find plenty of tutorials about is the ring for kids, but here are others that may be of interest. Now I just have to choose one to start with on my own!

According to the Secondary Materials and Recycled Textiles (SMART) Association, 95% of textiles, worn or torn, can be recycled but only 15% are actually recycled. The rest of those textiles go into our landfills and add to the growing numbers of post-consumer textile waste. Furthermore, textile recycling not only positively impacts the environment, but also impacts us as a society.
