EYES: There is so much we could say about this part of our bodies. Actually, you could write a deep sitting poem about this very important part of our bodies or even a song to praise it. I mean, what would you possibly do without your eyes?
Suppose you wake up and you could not see a damn thing. What would you do? If you are anything like me, you would be terrorized even dismayed. Long story cut short, our eyes are very important and deserve nothing but the tender most care. However, most people either knowingly or unknowingly, do not grant their eyes the care they deserve. It is this neglect that leads to a myriad of eye complications.
This is why we have compiled a list of ways to ensure your eyes are in perfect condition.
1. Proper diet
Since time immemorial, it has always been said that we are a reflection of what we eat. This is also the same for your eyes. The nutrients you channel into the body will go a long way in determining the condition of your eyes. To keep your eyes healthy you should eat lots of vegetables, fruits, and fish. These foods will help keep you away from eye related troubles and still thwart any possibilities of you acquiring conditions that may cause eye problems such as diabetes and obesity.
2. Protect them from the sun
Apart from making you fashionable, sun glasses go a long way in helping ward off harmful UV rays from your eyes. These rays can cause cataracts and macular deterioration which are major problems that impair vision. In addition, these effects of the sun can also cause puffiness on the eyes. However, this puffiness can be cleared with the use of a best eye cream. A best eye cream will be able to clear the swollen skin in an instant while still helping you lighten the area under your eyes if it is darker than the other parts of your face. But why go through all this hustle when you can just invest in a trendy pair of sunglasses that will keep your eyes safe and still make heads turn?
3. Get away from the computer
In this time when technology has taken over, it may be impossible to work without using a computer. This means that you will be staring at that screen for a minimum of 5 hours a day. Now, this can be detrimental to your eyesight as it can cause blurry vision, temporary short-sightedness and straining of the eyes. So if it is possible, try to move away from the computer at least once every hour. You can also invest in computer glasses that will help reduce the impact.
4. Keep them clean
The eyes are very sensitive and can easily get bacterial infections. This is why it is important to always keep them clean by trying to avoid touching them with dirty hands. This is especially important for you who wear contact lenses. Because these lenses are always in direct contact with your eyes, touching them with dirty hands will be the equivalent of directly placing pathogens into your eyes. The center for disease control and prevention has released findings that show that it is the mishandling of these lenses by most Americans that brings about the multiple eye problems facing people today. Thus, it is important to keep your eyes clean and more so if you wear contact lenses. This will help keep off ailments like keratitis an infection of the cornea.
5. Regular check-ups
Matters of the eyes should not be taken lightly. That incessant puffiness under eyes should be taken care of immediately. This is because it could be a sign of an underlying problem. Doctors recommend that you should at least get your eyes checked annually to ensure any problems are treated early enough before they culminate into major tragedies. However, minor issues like puffiness can be cured using products. But do not forget to get those eyes checked by an optician regularly.
Conclusion
We all dream of living long enough to see our descendants. But have you ever taken it literally? You should. This is because you will need functional eyes to behold those beautiful faces. Now, to keep your eyes healthy for this long, you will have to take care of them diligently all through your life. Measures, like keeping them clean and going for checkups, may seem petty, but they will go a long way in keeping your eyes healthy for life.
