The pallet was just a platform (literally!) to deliver the stuff that we needed to help us to transform our spaces for the better; flooring, tile, and other building materials that were the raw materials for our dream homes. But, that’s so 20th century!

I love pallet projects! I have not been able to take one on myself yet, but they are such a great way to reuse these things; can be made so attractive! At my school, the art teacher had students design some vertical gardens with pallets = awesome.
I know right? I also personally haven’t been able to repurpose one, I would love a coffee table or a frame for vertical garden as well! The problem is my space at home, plus I don’t really NEED the coffee table. Wouldn’t use. But I think one day I will go for the vertical garden.
One thing that bothers me is that are so trendy right now, that I have seen already some furniture they sell with only the looks of the pallet, not really made of Upcycled pallet 😤 the whole idea is to reuse them, but well… that’s the problem with trends

That is the problem with trends – you are so right. One day I will take up such project as long as it is something I need. I could see good use in the vertical garden as well, or outdoor furniture because I don’t have any and they’re typically expensive (and hard to find second hand).
The one thing no one mentions with these projects – how do you take the pallets apart without ruining the wood? They are built to not come apart.
My daughter tried to make a table two summers ago, but we could not figure out how to pull the pallets apart with out pulling the nails through the wood and making big holes.
Any ideas? I can get all the pallets I want and it kills me to drive by them every day and know they are going to the dump.
Good question!! I haven’t tried it myself due to the lack of space to repurpose them, but I also pass by them and wish I could do one of these DIY projects myself!
Check out this page, maybe can help. They list some special tools to dismantle the pallets without breaking them or hurting yourself:

They show a pneumatic tool that punches the nail through the wood so you can take off the panels. It leaves a clean, small hole, instead of the jagged mess you get with a pry bar.
But, you need an air compressor to run this tool.
Taking them apart cleanly is the deal breaker. I have cut some up for fire wood, and that is a challenge because they are so heavy and difficult to work with.
