Composting 101 [Infographic]

[Breve resumen traducido al Español aquí]

Composting is an excellent way to reduce the amount of waste that reaches the trash bin and is a free way to fertilize your lawn and garden. The key is composting the right way, which means knowing what is compostable and what is not.

Meat, eggs and bones are big no-no’s, for example. While these items will in fact breakdown in a compost pile, it will create quite a nasty stench and attract critters. By sticking to fruit and veggie scraps, coffee grounds/filters, yard debris and other items listed below, the compost bin won’t smell like a mini landfill and pests won’t be a problem.

This infographic will help you get started composting at home, showing you what should go into your compost pile and which items should not.
