Sometimes even though we believe we lead a quiet responsible life we need a little reminder about the environmental issues in order to stay aware of the problems. It is about time to take responsibility and start changing the current situation. We need to do all that we can to save our planet from any more damage.
Some people avoid being eco-friendly because they think it is too difficult. Well, it’s not. There are many simple changes you can intertwine in your lifestyle in order to lead a more eco-friendly life and keep our planet clean and healthy for future generations.
The three R’s
The first and most important thing is to remember the three R’s – reuse, reduce and recycle. Reducing the amount of waste you produce is the best way to be eco-friendly and truly help the environment. Instead of simply throwing away stuff, find another purpose for them. And always recycle even though it complicates thing for you! Stick with the three R’s and you will pay your debt to our glorious planet Earth.
Grow your own crops
Grow your own eco-friendly garden. There are plenty of new garden design ideas for almost every space and no space at all. For example, if you live in an apartment building – no problem, simply create a vertical balcony garden. On the other hand, if you have a large outdoor area, create a big garden and grow your own food without using pesticides or any type of chemicals.
The best part is that you can use the garbage you leave behind to make compost for the plants and ensure the productivity of the crops. Besides growing organic fruits and veggies, you will have a perfect stress relief activity and your whole family can be a part of it.
Eco-friendly tourism
Choose eco-friendly travel and pack light for your next vacation. Next time you travel, get around with public transportation options rather than renting a car. The best eco-friendly traveling option is to explore the location by foot but in case that is impossible, rely on public transportation. Another brilliant idea is to travel by train and bring your bike with you! It can’t get any more eco-friendly than that.
Some exotic destinations like Bali, for example, rely on eco-tourism because of the realization that the mass tourism has a negative effect on the environment. That is why private Canggu accommodation is gaining popularity over the past few years.
More and more tourists choose home stays, eco accommodation, local organic farms with just a couple of rooms rather than big resorts that don’t pay attention to the preservation of nature. The environment shouldn’t suffer from your visit!!! Be wise, do a research before you start your journey in a faraway destination with such stunning nature.
Save water
We can all agree that it is pretty easy to forget about conserving water but that doesn’t mean it is not as important as recycling. We should all do everything in our power to keep our water usage low.
So next time you are planning on taking a 45-minute shower – don’t. Take shorter showers, turn off the water while brushing teeth, rinsing or washing dishes, use the dishwasher only once is completely full as well as the washer and dryer. Not only you will save on your water bill but you will make the earth happy as well.
Also, make sure to always carry your own water bottle and simply fill it up before you go to avoid buying plastic bottles.
Recyclable fashion
Stop buying so many clothing items. Instead, opt for second-hand clothes from the thrift store or online second-hand retailers. You will help preserve our planet plus you will surely find some unique vintage pieces you can, later on, donate or sell and continue the recycling cycle. Search online for places where you can do a clothes exchange or shop at stores that use sustainable methods to combine quality fabrics with modern designs.
Recycle your clothes in shops that have a sustainability program. Some stores even give you gift vouchers for your future purchases so it’s a pretty much win-win situation.
Exchange your old clothes with your friends. Make a pile of clothes you don’t wear anymore and call your friends to pick out things they like. Encourage them to do the same and once you get bored with certain items, simply donate, sell, or recycle them.
By following these simple eco-friendly steps you will ensure you’ve done all that is in your power to preserve nature and our surroundings. At the end of the day, you will be satisfied with the effort you put into helping our planet.
