There are two primary types of coughs, dry and productive. A productive cough is one in which you are coughing up phlegm or mucous-this is not a cough that should be suppressed, as your body needs to rid itself of the gunk that’s in your chest/lungs. While it shouldn’t be suppressed, some of these remedies will address a productive cough by including an expectorant, or something that loosens mucous and makes it easier for the body to get rid of.

lemon sugar facial scrub (via ohsoprettythediaries)

3 Cups White Sugar
1 Cup Olive Oil
1 Tbs. Lemon Extract (add more if the scent is too subtle)

Mix it all up in a bowl.

homemade sugar scrub (via happyhourprojects)

2 parts sugar : 1 part oil.

30-45 second in the microwave on low power should do the trick, or heat it in a saucepan for a few minutes.  You don’t want it boiling or anything – just warm enough to melt.

pumpkin spice latte body scrub (via craftinomicon)

1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
2 heaping Tablespoons of your favorite ground coffee
1-2 Tablespoons of pumpkin pie spice (blend of nutmeg, ginger, cloves and cinnamon)
3/4-1 cup oil, depending on how “wet” you like your body scrub (you want light oils without much of their own flavor or scent in this one, so it doesn’t overpower your other ingredients)

Whisk your sugar into a bowl and breaking it up to get rid of any large chunks.
Next, add in your ground coffee and spices. Mix this all together evenly before adding your oil.
Finally add in your oils. Mix everything together well and then scoop into an air tight container of your choosing.

organic citrus sugar scrub (via sugarandcloth)

1 Small Lemon
1 Small Lime
1 Cup Pure Cane Sugar
1/2 Cup Coconut Oil
1 Teaspoon Peppermint Essential Oil/Extract
Mint Leaves, lemon & lime peels (optional)

Combine the oil and all of the moist ingredients, then add the sugar and lemon and lime peels as a garnish, then stir.

lavender mint sugar scrub (via julieblanner)

1/4 cup carrier oil {Vitamin E, grapeseed oil, almond oil, olive oil}
1/2 c sugar
spearmint essential oil to your taste {I used 10 drops}
5 heads of lavender, pulled apart

Mix, add to your jar and enjoy! Keep in mind that lavender activates when rubbed/broken, so it will be more fragrant in the bath/shower.

orange sugar scrub (via julieblanner)

lemon, orange or 2 limes
oil – I chose vitamin E, but almond oil, grape seed oil or even olive oil will work!
sugar

Zest one orange, lemon or two limes into a bowl
Add 1/2 cup sugar and 1/4 cup oil
Stir and add to your container.

coconut rose body scrub (via thebeautydepartment)

a mason jar
coconut oil
raw cane sugar
almond or jojoba oil
and one fragrant rose

Start by putting a large scoop of coconut oil in the bottom of the jar.
Next, pluck your rose petals and put them into the jar on top of the coconut oil.
Add your raw sugar.
Add your almond or jojoba oil on top of the sugar.
Wait a minute for your oil to seep down to the flower petals and then top it off with a little more almond or jojoba oil.
Last but not least, put your lid on and let it sit so the oils can soak into the flower petals.
When you are ready to use it, take a spoon and mash it all up. The coarse sugar will break up the rose petals and they’ll continue to break up as you rub the scrub on your skin.

diy coffee scrub (via findingcoffee)

1 cup ground coffee
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup olive oil
1 Tbsp fresh ground cinnamon

Blend all of these ingredients together in an airtight container.
Use: Massage scrub over clean, damp skin; rinse and pat dry (you might want to use a little soap when rinsing if you don’t want too much oil left behind on your skin).
The scrub will keep for 2 months if kept in a cool, dry place.

salt lemon scrub (via thebeautydepartment)

5 tablespoons sea salt
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 lemon

First mix the olive oil and sea salt together. Once the salt gets coated by the oil, the lemon won’t dissolve it! Next cut the lemon in half and squeeze over the salt + oil. Mix and mash.

3Wednesdays

Clove

Clove is considered to be the best remedy for toothache. Clove is known for its anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anesthetic and antioxidant properties. For toothache relief you will have to dab a small cotton ball in clove oil and apply directly to the infected tooth. You can also make clove oil rinse by adding a few drops of it in ½ glass water, mix well and gargle. If you do not have clove oil you can grind some cloves and add them to cooking oil (few drops) and apply this mixture to the aching tooth.

Garlic

The antibiotic properties of garlic are effective in inhibiting the growth of the bacteria in the mouth, which saves us from tooth decay. Take a clove of garlic and finely crush it with some salt and apply. In case you do not have fresh garlic you can use garlic powder in the same manner.
