Trips to the doctor and dentist can fall by the wayside when one becomes a full-fledged adult. Ironically, this is the time when most people need to set up a regular schedule for visits to their various health care professionals. But in the absence of a parent to call the shots, how does one know just how frequently they need to visit their optometrist, chiropractor, or ear, nose, and throat specialist? Read Fix’s guide to know how often to visit the doctor, and for guidelines on what professional you need to see, and when.

Because the health care needs of men and women differ, so do their schedules for when to visit the doctor. Women are advised to visit the gynecologist for pap tests and breast exams with increasing frequency based on age, whereas men don’t need to begin routine prostate exams until significantly later in life. Both men and women are advised to seek colon cancer testing between ages 20-39, based on the advice of their doctor.

With age, the frequency of visits to the doctor for routine colon, prostate, and breast exams will increase. But one thing that stays the same is visits to the dentist; make sure to schedule a visit for cleaning and a check-up every six months!

Pilates and yoga are two popular workouts that, to the untrained eye, may appear like the same thing. If you’re looking to increase your muscle strength and tone, yoga may be the workout for you. If you’re looking for a workout that improves core strength and stability, then try out pilates. Take a look through this infographic to figure out which one is right for you.

Oregano Essential Oil Benefits [Infographics]

IMG from Soregano (Oregano essential oil extracted by steam distillation)

On November last year, I had the opportunity of coming along to interview a lovely lady called María Elena Solís Flores who is producing her own *Oregano Essential Oil (Soregano) and is trying to introduce nationally (in Mexico) the major health benefits of this “weed”, but looking forward to expand internationally as well.

It was really an eye opening experience since I had never been on the field and behind the whole process of steam distillation to get the oil from herbs like the oregano. And it was even more shocking to see how this plant survives everything, and how local people is not realising the natural gem with so many healing properties they have in their backyard. Some even use herbicide to kill the oregano plant since they consider it a “weed” when trying to grow corn (for example)!

Maybe we don’t have a big garden to plant our own oregano, but be sure that if you grow one yourself (even on your kitchen’s windowsill) you’ll get one of the basic Mexican food’s spices that not only provides flavour but also the following health benefits:

The Importance & Benefits of Stretching + Examples

As you age, your muscles tighten and range of motion in the joints can be minimized. This can put a damper on active lifestyles and even hinder day-to-day, normal motions. Tasks that used to be simple, such as zipping up a dress or reaching for a can off of the top shelf, now become extremely difficult. A regular stretching program can help lengthen your muscles and make daily living activities easier.

Everyone can learn to stretch, regardless of age or flexibility. Stretching should be a part of your daily routine, whether you exercise or not. There are simple stretches you can do while watching TV, on the computer, or getting ready for bed. If you are doing strength training exercises, stretch in between sets. It feels good and saves time from stretching at the end of the workout!
