The Changing Face of UK Energy [Infographic]

The key message to take from this infographic could well be the rise of renewable energy in the UK energy market, as the push by successive governments for green energy has led to a vast increase in the number of renewable energy sources being utilised.

Another key issue is how this energy is being used, so for this we have looked at which sectors use the most energy. Perhaps unsurprisingly it is the transport sector that uses the most energy (38%), followed by domestic usage at 27%.

This, of course, takes quite a macro look at the UK energy market. To make it more obviously relevant to the individual, the piece finally covers where the money you pay annually for energy is actually going and compares home energy usage in the UK with the US. Unsurprisingly heating accounts for about twice as much domestic energy usage in the UK.

Environmental Dates: Global Wind Day

Environmental Dates: Global Wind Day | ecogreenloveGlobal Wind Day is a worldwide event that occurs annually on 15 June. It is a day for discovering wind, its power and the possibilities it holds to reshape our energy systems, decarbonise our economies and boost jobs and growth.

Today, wind energy is a mature and mainstream technology and one of the fastest growing industrial sectors in the world with almost $100 billion invested in 2014.

In the EU alone, the wind industry installed more than gas and coal combined last year with enough cumulative installed capacity to meet 10.2% of the region’s electricity consumption, equivalent to powering 73 million households.

Global Wind Day is a coordinated action between the European Wind Energy Association, the Global Wind Energy Council and the national associations to introduce the general public to wind energy through a series of activities. In the run-up to 15 June, hundreds of public events will be held all over the world from family outings and wind farm visits to seminars with experts and leading industry figures.

This year Global Wind Day is organised in coordination with SolutionWind, a global awareness campaign to highlight the unique relevance of the wind industry ahead of COP21 climate negotiations in Paris at the end of the year.

Types of Renewable Energy [Infographic]

Found on ChemicallyGreen

The United States currently relies heavily on coal, oil, and natural gas for its energy. Fossil fuels are nonrenewable, that is, they draw on finite resources that will eventually dwindle, becoming too expensive or too environmentally damaging to retrieve. In contrast, renewable energy resources are constantly replenished and will never run out.
