The “electrify everything” movement aims to use cleaner energy and decrease our dependence on fossil fuels. Many people have already switched their gas-powered cars to electric ones for a smaller carbon footprint. Now homeowners are looking to convert any technology or appliance in their home that runs on natural gas to electric power. There’s nearly an even split in the U.S. between houses that run on electricity or natural gas, and some use a combination of both. While electricity production currently isn’t 100% clean, many local governments are introducing electricity options where you can buy electricity from renewable sources. There’s still a long way to go before the electric grid is completely clean but proponents for electrification say that you shouldn’t wait for a full transformation.

It’s important to remember that the best way to help the environment is by consuming less energy — no matter what source it comes from.

Biofuels are combustible fuels created from biomass.

“Firewood is the oldest bio-fuel mankind has used, now we have biogas, gasohol and many more. Carbon dioxide is produced when these burn, but as long as the trees and plants are allowed to re-grow, burning them simply helps carbon on its way round its natural cycle.

What is biogas? If we collect the faeces from humans and farm animals and place them in a ‘digester’ we can mimic what happens in a cow’s intestine, and we get biogas. There are many such digesters in use all round the world, where the gas is used for cooking and lighting and the remains are a rich fertiliser. Biogas digesters are used in most sewage works where the methane is burnt to generate electricity.
