Preparing for the mini Ice Age [Infographic]
Infographic by Cast Iron Radiators 4u
Recent research, presented at the National Astronomy Meeting, suggests that the northern hemisphere could be plunged into a mini ice age within the next ten years. This would lead to those currently living in temperate climes (like the UK and USA) enduring colder and harsher temperatures than they are prepared for. If this comes to pass you will want to be as self-reliant as possible in terms of heat, energy and food. While the mini ice age may prove to be a lot of hot air; these methods can still be used to save you money, help the environment and keep you healthy.
Environmental Dates: Zero Emissions Day
The Global 24 hour Moratorium on the use of Fossil Fuels
ZeDay Guidelines are simple:
- Don’t use or burn oil or gas or coal.
- Minimize (or eliminate) your use of electricity generated by fossil fuels.
- Don’t put anyone in harm’s way: All essential and emergency services operate normally.
- Do your best, have fun, enjoy the day!
Our world is counting on us
It’s up to each of us to take care of our planet at this point. When your driving something this large you have to stop every now and then — reflect on what’s working and what’s not working — and set a new course for where you really want to be. Zero Emissions Day provides just that opportunity to benefit everything and everyone on our planet.
We’re finding that more and more people, families and communities are declaring Zero Emissions Days whenever they please and just for the fun of it. People who have had the experience have been transformed deeply by it.
In the end, it’s not about massive public relations and media campaigns that are here today and gone tomorrow. It’s all about individual awareness, mindfulness and the choices we make. It’s about realizing yes we can all stop harming ourselves and our planet – if only for one day. We can do this. We can all do this.

Environmental Dates: Global Wind Day
Global Wind Day is a worldwide event that occurs annually on 15 June. It is a day for discovering wind, its power and the possibilities it holds to reshape our energy systems, decarbonise our economies and boost jobs and growth.
Today, wind energy is a mature and mainstream technology and one of the fastest growing industrial sectors in the world with almost $100 billion invested in 2014.
In the EU alone, the wind industry installed more than gas and coal combined last year with enough cumulative installed capacity to meet 10.2% of the region’s electricity consumption, equivalent to powering 73 million households.
Global Wind Day is a coordinated action between the European Wind Energy Association, the Global Wind Energy Council and the national associations to introduce the general public to wind energy through a series of activities. In the run-up to 15 June, hundreds of public events will be held all over the world from family outings and wind farm visits to seminars with experts and leading industry figures.
This year Global Wind Day is organised in coordination with SolutionWind, a global awareness campaign to highlight the unique relevance of the wind industry ahead of COP21 climate negotiations in Paris at the end of the year.

Green Media: Will We Ever Run Out Of Oil?
“We’ve heard news of “peak oil” and “the end of the oil age” for years now, but we keep coming up with ways to find and pump more of it to the surface. Rising CO2 levels and the changing climate that results from burning fossil fuels mean that we should probably stop using oil sooner rather than later, though.”
