Let me start with one aspect of this book that can make a big difference on how you perceive it. I think it is very important to try and forget who the author is. So, before you start reading this book, please try to ignore that it’s written by Bill Gates. Unlike Steve Jobs, who was and still is worshipped by many, Bill Gates kind of got more of a we-hate-you fan club. And there are a lot of reviews condemning this book just based on the fact that he is the author – even worse, based on some incorrect statements, it seems that many of them did not even read it, but just assumed it’s bad/wrong because it’s from Gates. That is a very sad thing because it’s actually worth reading. But only if you can manage to have an open mind and listen … something that seems to be a rare thing in this time and age.Continue reading ““How To Avoid A Climate Disaster” by Bill Gates [Review]”
As solar technology improves with years, more homeowners are interested in harnessing the power of the Sun. Nowadays, solar energy is getting more affordable, which means more households can benefit from free energy generated with the help of their solar panels. If you are like most homeowners, you want to make the most of the solar system you installed. Fortunately, there are a plethora of ways to do so, and they range from investing in a couple of upgrades to scheduling regular cleaning and maintenance. Whether you’re looking to green your home or simply want to save some money on your monthly utility bills (or both!), here are some of the best ways to maximize the efficiency of a solar panel.
Aside from avoiding plastic, opting for public transportation, and going for more organic food choices, one significant factor in defining a person’s carbon footprint is energy consumption. Fossil fuels remain to be the most common energy source; but thanks to innovations in technology, people are now able to harness the power of the environment without doing any harm.
Switching to renewable sources can be one of your best investments. Wind turbines, hydroelectric dams, and solar panels are all eco-friendly alternatives to fossil fuels. Opting for them won’t only minimize your impact on the environment, but it would also allow you to enjoy several practical benefits as well.
The “electrify everything” movement aims to use cleaner energy and decrease our dependence on fossil fuels. Many people have already switched their gas-powered cars to electric ones for a smaller carbon footprint. Now homeowners are looking to convert any technology or appliance in their home that runs on natural gas to electric power. To learn more about why homeowners are electrifying their homes, explore the infographic below from The Zebra.
There’s nearly an even split in the U.S. between houses that run on electricity or natural gas, and some use a combination of both. While electricity production currently isn’t 100% clean, many local governments are introducing electricity options where you can buy electricity from renewable sources. There’s still a long way to go before the electric grid is completely clean but proponents for electrification say that you shouldn’t wait for a full transformation.
It’s important to remember that the best way to help the environment is by consuming less energy — no matter what source it comes from.
