Greenwashing Companies & Corporations

Greenwashing Companies & Corporations | ecogreenlove

Greenwashing can be as subtle as a misleading packaging choice all the way to fossil fuel companies touting themselves as being eco-champions. Either way, greenwashing is a harmful and deceitful way of advertising that a company is more sustainable than it actually is. Companies that make false claims should be held accountable. Here are 10 companies that have been caught greenwashing in various ways.

Climate Fraud [quote]

Climate Fraud | ecogreenlove

Christine Arena, a former Edelman vice-president who now runs her own social impact production company Generous Films, says climate fraud can’t happen without the help of the PR and advertising industry.

“PR and ad firms are central players in what we look at as the influence industry,” she says. “There’s a lot of money spent, and emphasis on external facing advertising, marketing, and promotion that helps prop up the fossil fuel industry’s social license to operate and give the world a sense that, to quote API, ‘We’re on it.’ We don’t need regulation. We’re good corporate actors.”

A lot of products that have been advertised as being “healthy” are actually sabotaging your health and overall well-being. These products contain GMOs, chemical fillers, colourings, high sodium and refined sugar content as well as high levels of saturated and trans fat. Getting your health food information from TV or radio talk shows, or relying on your doctor or magazines to tell you what you should be eating probably isn’t your best bet.

Taking responsibility for your own health, and doing your own research is the only way you can be certain that the food you are putting in your body isn’t toxic. Eating fresh, whole foods like organic & local fruit and vegetables is quite simple in this respect because you know what is in your food, and don’t need to put much thought into it (hence, why I like to promote a high raw vegan diet devoid of any and all processed foods).

Find out why these perceived “healthy” food choices aren’t as nutritious as you thought:

Targeting Children with Treats [Infographic]

On January 25, 2012, First Lady Michelle Obama and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack unveiled new requirements for nutritional standards in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs across the nation. The official press release outlines the improvements to school lunch programs that are expected to enhance the health of children at school as well as lessen the childhood obesity trend. Under the new rules, schools will be required to double the servings of vegetables and fruits per meal.

In an effort to support the nutritional standards for school meals and our teachers and students, this infographic shows statistics sharing lifestyle, consumption, and media activity relating to children. It takes a community to raise a child and we know how important teachers are to the growth and development of our students! We encourage you to help as we spread this important message!
