7 Tips for reducing Waste in your Garden

Garden waste can be a big problem if you don’t take care of it properly. You might find yourself filling up rubbish sacks every week with everything you can throw away – or worse, it could be building up on your land and staying there. To keep your garden neat and reduce waste, try these seven tips.

1. Identify problem areas

The first thing you should do is try to figure out where and why the waste is building up. Is there a particular part of your garden which ends up looking like a mess all the time? Are you constantly pulling up weeds, or having to trim down overgrown trees? Figure out where the waste comes from before anything else.

2. Make a plan

When you have spotted the problems, you next need a plan which will help you to deal with them. Think about how you are going to stop the waste from building up again. It might be chopping an unruly tree down, cropping it much closer than you usually do, using weed deterrent solutions, or creating a new storage area for items that tend to get strewn around.

3. Enlist a removal company

If you have a lot of waste which has already built up, it would be a good idea to get rid of it all in one go. To do this, you should hire a waste removal company who will take care of it for you. Otherwise, it will be so much hassle to take it away, and you will probably have to take several trips to the tip – instead of having it disposed of in a more eco-friendly way.

4. Build a shed

Having a shed in your garden is one of the best ways to reduce the mess in your garden, even if you are still producing a lot of waste. It’s a place to put away tools, toys, bags of waste, and so on, either permanently or until you can put them away properly. This will help to give a neater appearance, and will get you into the habit of putting things away.

5. Reduce your high-maintenance areas

If you have lots of areas that are giving you trouble, another solution is just to change them completely. For example, you could pave over or building decking over a grassy area which is heavily prone to weeds. If you have a border area which constantly needs pruning back, you could try filling it with slate or sand and making a zen garden.

6. Bring in gardeners

If you don’t want to spent the time maintaining your garden and taking care of the waste, but you do want to keep it looking fresh and green, then a good option is to bring in some landscape gardeners who will attend every week and keep things in shape. They will take care of everything for you, so that your garden is the envy of all your neighbours.

7. Move home

If your garden is too much for you to deal with, maybe the property you currently own is not realistically suited to your needs. It might seem like a drastic solution, but if the waste in your garden is really getting you down, then you might find a home somewhere else that makes you feel happier. Less garden means less waste!
